February 10, 2006 (Press Release) --
Los Angeles, CA – Asia Sports & Entertainment (ASE), an athlete representation and event management firm, announced today the signing of 24-year-old Korean golfer, Meena Lee, a Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) titleholder and one of last year’s top 10 money winners.
“In a short period of time, Meena has proven that she is well on her way to making her mark on the world golf circuit,” said Andrew Watkins, ASE president. “As a role model for young athletes in Korea, she is known for both her sportsmanship and competitive edge. I am positive that her ambitions, fueled by her first win on the LPGA Tour at the Canadian Women’s Open last year, will create for her a dynamic presence in the States. We are excited to represent such a talented and driven young woman.” Watkins added that Joon Choi, ASE vice president-Korea, would handle the day-to-day duties for Lee.
In 2005, Lee won for the first time on the LPGA Tour at the BMO Financial Group Canadian Women’s Open. Before that, she finished tied for fifth place at the Evian Masters, was a finalist in HSBC’s Women’s World Match Play Championship, tied for second at the LPGA Corning Classic, tied for fourth at the Samsung World Championship and tied for sixth at the Mizuno Classic. She also finished second in the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year race to Paula Creamer.
Following her signing, Lee said: “Having ASE represent me in U.S. and worldwide is very exciting. I see good things happening this year and can’t wait to tee up this month in Hawaii.” Lee plans to compete, along with Hall of Famers Karrie Webb and Julie Inkster, in the LPGA season opener, the $1 million SBS Open at Turtle Bay on Oahu, Hawaii from February 16-18.
Lee, a native of Jeon-Ji, South Korea, started playing golf at the age of 14. Five years later in 2000, she became the Korean Amateur Champion. During her rookie season in 2002, she won three events on the KLPGA Tour, had six other top-10 finishes, finished as the leading money-winner and earned KLPGA Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player honors. In 2003, she played in nine events on the KLPGA, winning one event and posting three other top-10 finishes to take fifth on the money list. In 2004, Lee played on the Futures Tour in the United States, where she finished 23rd on the money list. She tied for 25th at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to earn exempt status for the 2005 LPGA season.
