February 16, 2006 (Press Release) --
Beijing has adopted a series of preferential policies and measures to encourage more graduates to seek employment in its suburban areas.
According to a recruitment plan, 8,000 graduates will be recruited to serve as assistants to village heads in the coming three years, according to the government of this capital city.
Once appointed to the posts, graduates are required to sign a three-year labor contract with local township governments. Each of them will be paid for 2,500 yuan monthly on average and the governments will pay for their insurance.
When the contract expires, these graduates can choose to stay at the village-based posts or to find other jobs. If they well fulfill their duties at village-based posts, they will enjoy preferential treatment when applying for post-graduates studies.
The first group of graduates are expected to take village posts in Beijing's suburban areas in next summer.
Currently, Beijing has 3,978 villages in its suburban areas. The city will have about 170,000 graduates next year.
