FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) February 21, 2006 -- Toronto, Ontario, February 21, 2006 - The Society of Internet Professionals (SIP), is organizing a panel
discussion to increase public awareness of the threat of identity theft and its prevention. Identity theft is
emerging as the most rapidly growing crime of the 21st century. According to a recent survey conducted by
Deloitte, one in five respondents has been the victim of identity fraud or theft.
SIP has assembled an excellent panel of speakers from the police (Ontario Provincial Police), academia

(McMaster University), online banking (Use My Bank) and a leading consulting North American company
(Deloitte) to provide you insight into detecting, managing and preventing identity theft.
“SIP has been holding educational forums since 1997 in areas where there is a lack of awareness or expertise.
SIP believes that Identity Theft is a bigger crime than most people realize; large financial institutions and
online database keepers, do not acknowledge thefts of personal data unless they are exposed by the media.
The public should be made aware of the seriousness, extent and impact of these thefts and what measures

financial institutions are taking to combat them.” says Max Haroon, President of SIP.
