Two undergraduate students from Georgia Tech have created an online billboard (www.theonlinebillboard.com) in an effort to start a new way to advertise online.

ATLANTA, GA. -- February 21, 2005. Why would anyone want to go to a website that only has ads on it? You have to visit the site to find out. Two undergraduate students from Georgia Tech have created an online billboard (www.theonlinebillboard.com) in an effort to start a new way to advertise online. The students have big plans for the money they raise. Ten percent of the proceeds will go to the American Red Cross and the rest will go towards funding their education.
Jimmy Richeson and Nathan Sumner are both sophomore Mechanical Engineering students. They came up with this idea in mid-January and had the site up and running by the beginning of this month. The idea for the site is to allow advertisers a unique and inexpensive way to advertise online while allowing potential customers to search the ads for specific good or services.
All the ads are organized into several categories. All the ads are listed on the "Ad List" page in their respective categories which the users can search through. This is in addition to each advertiser's time on "the billboard" homepage.
The website essentially acts like an online rotating billboard. Every ad is shown in five-second increments in random order. Once all the ads are shown, the sequence is repeated.
