New Poetry Captures Both Darkness and Hope
Book Illustrates Truth of Reality through Verse
MAYS LANDING, N.J.- In Paul Gerke’s new collection of poetry, he describes in verse his Thoughts and feeling over a one-year period. Risty (now available through AuthorHouse) includes Both intensely personal and objective writings about loss, sadness, love and the state of today’s world.
The poems reflect a young man’s feelings in a turbulent world and what he sees as his future. With dozens of pieces that evoke profound emotions all people feel, Gerke’s book reaches out to readers with its honesty and its remarkable insight. The verses are often dark, but only because the reality of life is often overtaken by melancholy circumstances. Still Gerke holds a glimmer of hope through the collection, as he illustrates that he continues to believe in true love, personal determination and the power of friendship.
The poem “Author” is an example of the poems in this work:
Pulled down by undertaken desire/ Almost beyond repair/ Somehow with the
Conclusion/ Pages lightened/ Breath once again taken/ From rejuvenated self/ Tunnel
Dwelled in no more/ Boundaries disappeared/ Thoughts are free/ Looking out from
Eyes/ Blinded by fluorescent light/ Flickering out in mind/ Replaced by sun/ All
Promise/ No lies/ In truth of nature/ Only lies in what man creates/ In concrete jungle/
Blocks crumble/ As dust clears/ Rebuild/ Resurrect once again/ That of which
Destroyed/ The essence of society
With a talent for imagery and the ability to capture true emotions in verse, Gerke’s new
Book touches on everything from the horrors of war to the cycling of the seasons to the meaning of home. Risty is a powerful work that presents this talented young poet’s latest wings.
Gerke, a native of New Jersey, is 22 years old. He currently loves in Atlantic County, N.J.
