Palm Beach Imperials Show Support For Curt Gowdy
West Palm Beach, FL – February 23, 2006 - After learning of the recent passing of sports legend, Curt Gowdy, the Palm Beach Imperials (www.palmbeachimperials.com) took time to mourn the passing of one of its heroes.
Gowdy, an important contributor to the game of basketball, spent 10 years (1966-76) as NBA’s announcer for its game of the week and also was the president of the Basketball Hall of Fame for several years.
“I think that it is important to pay tribute to those who have treaded the path before us, and those who have inspired us. Curt Gowdy is one of those people,” commented Dan Mangru, President of Palm Beach Imperials.
The Palm Beach Imperials are one of the ABA’s (American Basketball Association) newest franchises, and is scheduled to begin play this November 2006.
Gowdy, who recently had memorial services in Palm Beach, will have funeral services this Saturday at Boston’s Trinity Church.
“To pay respect to a man is one thing, but to see how many lives that man has touched is amazing. Both locally and nationally, I have seen first-hand the type of support that people have for Curt Gowdy. With that, we send our deepest condolences to the family, and hope to honor their beloved family member,” stated Mangru.
The Imperials are now considering different dedication options to honor Curt Gowdy’s memory for 2006 and beyond.
