OK, maybe this cannot be taken literally. But the simplicity and innocence of the preschooler constantly asking “Why?” has a lot to do with modern business. According to GDM Consulting CEO Gary Markin one of the most common mistakes businesses make is not fully understanding the driving force behind an action. Put simply, when evaluating whether or not to perform a task, Markin says “Keep asking yourself ‘why’. You should eventually come up with an answer that ties to your corporate values, your corporate mission, or your strategic objectives. If you do not come back to one of those you probably should not move forward.” Interestingly, Markin believes that companies spend a great deal of time and effort excelling at tasks which only have minimal impact on real results.
