MEDICAL DIRECTOR FOR BARIATRIC SURGERY
Long Beach, CA –Mathias A. L. Fobi. M. D. F.A.C.S., F.I.C.S., F.A.C.N.,
has been named Medical Director for the new Bariatric Surgery Program at St. Mary Medical Center. In his new position, Dr. Fobi will establish a Bariatric Center of Excellence at St Mary Medical Center using a multidisciplinary program to treat Obesity and related disorders. This will include non surgical and surgical treatments with nutritional and psychological components and reconstructive surgeries after weight loss.
Dr. Fobi received his pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan and
received his medical degree from University of Cincinnati. Dr. Fobi’s training
included a Surgical internship and a General Surgical Residency at the King Drew Medical Center in Los. Dr. Fobi, a board certified surgeon, is a fellow of the American college of Surgeons, the American College of Clinical Nutrition and a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons. In 1981, he opened the Center for Surgical Treatment of Obesity in Los Angeles and has treated more than 10,000 patients through The Center in the past twenty five years.
Currently Dr. Fobi serves as the President of the American Society for Bariatric
Surgery Foundation, is an active member of the AMA, the Los Angeles County Medical Association and the National Medical Association. Dr. Fobi has published numerous articles on obesity and has written chapters on obesity surgery. He has been invited international to present lectures and do operations.
