The DVD is based on the highly acclaimed book "Stop Smoking Break the Chains" which STOP! own and distribute (also for free) on the internet. This book to date has attracted 40,000+ downloads and continually receives positive feedback.
Free copies of the DVD can be ordered from freestopsmoking.com
About STOP! :
The STOP! charitable association was set up by Mark Jordan who has a specialist knowledge of addiction. He has worked in the addiction field since the 1980s and was responsible for the development and management of the Belfast based drugs charity P.A.N.D.A.
Mark wrote the book after becoming unable to work as a result of developing Crohns Disease. His initial idea was to use his time in a useful manner whilst bed ridden and his intention was to complete a small personal project by writing a how to stop smoking book. His end goal was to publish it on the net and try to achieve 200 downloads over the course of one year.
The project was an immediate success - he achieved his target of 200 within 6 days and in the process collected several positive reviews.
The book has now been downloaded over 40,000 times and is recommended by several stop smoking agencies. The book uses a unique method developed over a number of years of working with addicts. It is currently being requested at an average rate of one every 57 minutes. ( 24 hours a day, seven days a week.)
It was in response to this demand that STOP! was formed.
As a result of the books popularity across the world, 'STOP!' has given permission for it to be translated into Arabic, Dutch and Tigrinya after receiving requests from individuals who wanted to make it available to their fellow countrymen in their own languages.
The Lotto project "Unlimited" helps support the venture and they provided STOP! with the resources that enabled the book to be converted into a health education DVD.
The DVD will be available from the 8th March 2006 and can be requested by anyone resident in the UK or Ireland by logging on to freestopsmoking.com.
'STOP!' are particularly keen to hear from individuals, employers, youth workers, health workers or any organisations who want to make the free DVD available to their staff/client group.
