According to The Natchez Democrat story, the town's Board has unanimously proclaimed "L. Ron Hubbard Day" to honor the date of birth of the author of "Dianetics." This recognition was, according to The Natchez Democrat, in response to the Scientology "Volunteer 'Ministers'" efforts.
"This is an laudable act," said David Rice (45), president of the National Coalition of Human Rights Activists. "L. Ron Hubbard was a true example of the ideals we all try hard to live up to everyday," Mr. Rice said. "The Church of Scientology - which is just one of the several civilizing legacies Mr. Hubbard left behind - actively fights for human rights for us all everyday." The founder of Scientology, who turned his book "Dianetics" into a bestseller by offering a simple, easy-to-learn therapy to each reader and later went on to develop the philosophy he called "Scientology," wrote in 1980 a book on Moral Values called "The Way To Happiness", in which he teaches values in a non-religious, non-preachy, common-sense manner.
Mr. Hubbard also spent years in Rhodesia, where he campaigned for an end to discrimination against black people. Years later, Scientologists using L.Ron Hubbard's educational techniques alphabetized over one million South-African children.
During times of disaster, the Scientology organization deploys thousands of volunteers, whom the Church calls "volunteer ministers," to succor and assist those affected with food, water, vaccines and spiritual aid. What the rest of the world calls catastrophes and disasters, the Scientology Church views as yet one more chance to help. Scientology's volunteer 'ministers have participated in most major disasters of recent times, gaining accolades from law enforcement officials and city, state and even national administratos for their work on sites around the world, including the World Trade Center disaster area, the London bombing areas, and the Sri Lanka tsunami areas, and many others.
"L. Ron Hubbard was a friend," Mr. Rice said. "He created an international network of caring individuals, united them with a common purpose to help, and left a legacy of caring uncharacteristic of our cynical times. That the town of Ferriday would honor this man fills our hearts with joy," NCHRA President Rice added.
As this award becomes a reality, Scientologists accross the United States continue to fight for human rights - currently pushing a bill into congress that would warn parents of potentially harmful effects of drugs that might be prescribed to their children. Undaunted in the face of crushing propaganda from the drug companies, Scientologists are making the issue known, and gathering support in Congress and among the public. See http://www.cchr.org
