Exactmobile launches Video Ringtones service with quality video technology from Actimagine

Paris, 2006 February 13th – Actimagine announces that it has licensed its innovative video ringtone technology to Exactmobile (South Africa). Exactmobile, one of the largest content providers in South Africa, has successfully launched the Video-tone service since November 2005. The technology, which is provided by Actimagine, enables a short music video clip with digital audio to be converted and installed as a ringtone on Symbian smart-phones. When a call arrives, the video clip will play automatically, along with the caller-ID, adding a new multimedia user experience, as compared to traditional ring-tones.
To date, Exactmobile has licensed more than 100 music video clips from publishers such as Sony BMG to be converted into video ringtones.
Actimagine’s video ringtones solution adopts a plug-in design, which allows multiple ringtones to be installed on the phone, and assigned to different users or profiles. The video output is of exceptionally high quality, due to a patented video codec, which is highly optimized for mobile devices. This software video codec is able to display full motion video on mobile devices, using ARM7 and ARM9 CPUs starting from 40MHz, making it suitable not only for smart-phones, but also for mid-range feature phones as well.
Davin Mole, Exactmobile CEO, says entertainment is opening up a whole new world to mobile phone users, which will soon have a knock on effect into the business environment.

Gavin Penkin, Director of Portal & Entertainment Business at Exactmobile, believes that the WASP (wireless application services provider) market has certainly moved beyond the point of downloading simple polyphonic tones and java games, into more feature rich contents.
