February 28, 2006 (Press Release) --
A new travel planning service launched this week and is the first travel-related web site to embrace the concept of social bookmarking or "tagging."
The free service -- called TripTags.com -- promises to make using the web for travel planning more fun and productive. The site offers travelers the ability to organize web pages, travel articles and other online content to help plan vacations. For example, a user planning a trip to Paris this spring might want to add a list of museums or restaurants she wants to visit. TripTags provides her with a one-click option to add these hot spots to a personalized list.
The site is similar to a bookmark or favorites list. Users can add the TripTags option to their existing web browser or the latest Google Toolbar. But the site takes the concept to the next level by enabling sharing, "tagging" and other features to plan the best trip possible.
To help organize the content, the site offers the use of "tags" or labels similar to those featured on sites such as Flickr and Technorati. The tags allow users to add short descriptions to each piece of content, such as "hotels" or "london theater." Tags can then be sorted with ease.
The site also allows users to share their "tags" with friends and family via a free personalized web site. Users are given a free domain (such as http://mikestrip.triptags.com) to make sharing their travel planning ideas easy.
And for those sensitive of spam or excessive advertising, fear not. TripTags.com does not require registration and does not display banner advertising.
