March 7, 2006 (Press Release) --
After researching and analyzing all he could find on MillionDollarHomePage.com Andriy started brainstorming the idea of doing something similar but at the same time different. Being a linguist he always talks about languages, language history, peculiarities, etc. to annoy his friends. So he started searching for ideas in that direction, in the field he loves. That's when the story of WordsHomePage.com begins.
At first the idea was to put all the existing words online and have people assign themselves to whatever word is free. "It would be hard to implement and maintain the whole dictionary," says Andriy, "I even wanted to create some kind of encyclopedia, but then I put this idea aside." Instead he lets people submit their own words while, as they say, the supply lasts. "For hundred dollars a word you get more pixel space than 10x10 box, and you can really benefit if the word is really long... This is very interesing for it also is a research project to see what people can come up with, and we'll also be able to see the timeline of how the site gets populated from simple words to more and more complicated and rare."
To submit a word you just need to fill out a simple form. There you specify the word you'd like to associate yourself with, your business info including business name (or any name for that matter), web site, mailing address. The main thing is that you need to submit a link to Wikipedia.com or any other trustworthy resource as a proof that the word means something. "I review every single word personally and either approve it or decline. Only approved words appear on the homepage," says Andriy, "I have to earn my hundred bucks don't I? So I'll research each word and see if it means something, only then I'll post it on my web site."
If this idea picks up one can only imagine how big this thing will grow. And the amount of words and phrases that can be submitted is virtually unlimited. And like Alex Tew's web site WordsHomePage is to remain online for as much as possible. "In time it's not going to fit even in computer's memory, let alone browser window," laughs Andriy, "I really hope that they'll come up with something to load all the words into..."
