March 13, 2006 (Press Release) --
SKARPENGLAND, NORWAY, March 13, 2006.
“The time is right for our new range of safety solutions to be commercialized”, states Frank
Wehus, Wtek AS CEO. Clearly inspired by both existing and potential systems within
underground mines and large offshore installations. “New markets have ripened, and with the
expansion Wtek has experienced since our first installation in 2002 it is with great
enthusiasm that we have reloaded hardware and software specifications”.
Existing partners can be proud of several installations within Scandinavia and Central
Europe, while new partners have already established ongoing projects in Poland, Asia,
Canada and the Middle East.
In brief, Wtek’s safety systems use a small transponder placed on personnel or other objects
that transmits a unique ID to strategically placed interrogators. The data collected at the
interrogators has traditionally been used to locate personnel and equipment in the case of an
emergency. However, it can also be used for much more.
Built on their existing, solid foundation, a system with an open architecture is introduced that
utilizes collected information in several ways. More scalability and customer-specific
variations is the result of new hardware, data collection techniques, module specifications
and integration possibilities. At the upcoming product launch in Q2 2006, Wtek will introduce
a wider range of hardware and software, including a drastic reduction in the size of
transponders, as well as software modules that enables better use of available data.
Introductions that will lower ROI times and increase customer satisfaction.
Wtek’s success factor so far is the result of a strategically correct decision taken several
years ago, when Wtek decided to build a hardware independent system. No matter the
supplier or the technology used to collect data, the software system itself can be updated to
support it. While competitors have been struggling with typical problems faced by early
adopters of emerging technologies, Wtek have utilized their competitive advantage and
steady-state condition to further add functionality to their systems. Wtek will with their new
products confirm their beachhead and position as market leader within RFID safety solutions.
