March 14, 2006 (Press Release) --
Increasingly, networking is becoming more important in securing the career opportunity or in winning business. Recent research indicates that in order of 75% career opportunities are found through networking.
Yet many of us don’t feel confident networking or perhaps even dread the idea of facing a room of people that we don’t know.
Just because you are fabulous at what you do it doesn’t mean that you’ll be a natural at networking.
Perhaps you have experienced networking events where the objective of many attending was to ‘press the flesh’ of as many people as possible along side distributing business cards galore?
After the event you’ve probably binned the business cards in the nearest trash can and go home thinking ‘that was a wasted night’. So what are the secrets to networking that will realise results for you?
Krishna De, Ireland’s leading Personal Branding and Marketing strategist comments, ‘the key to effective and confident networking is building relationships. We do business with people we know, like, trust and respect and therefore as we attend networking events, it’s important to keep that in the front of our mind. How can you begin to develop relationships for the longer term with people you meet at such events?’
She adds’ ‘There is an art to networking with confidence – you don’t have to be a born networker. Developing and implementing a strategy and plan to ensure that you realise a return on investment from the time you spend networking is critical. Many of the people that attend my workshops get a sharp awakening when they begining to consider the resources of time and money they invest in networking and have never considered them a cost to their business. We need to consider networking as part of our overall marketing strategy.’
So whether you are working independently or as part of a larger organisation, one of the critical skills we need to develop to help us excel in our career and achieve our business strategy and goals is learning the art of ‘Authentic Networking’.
Krishna is leading an interactive workshop on the 20 March 2006 at the Waterford Institute of Technology where she will be guiding attendees on how to:
• enhance their networking skills in real time
• learn how to reply to the toughest question that you get asked in any social occasion ‘so what do you do?’
• explore the increasingly important strategy of networking on-line
• and create their own networking strategy to accelerate their career and professional success in 2006.
