Heartbreak in Black and White
Painted On Souls
A New Book by Author
Marchel Alverson
Tampa, Fla., – Journalist Marchel Alverson has written a controversial and poignant novel about love, longing and lust in Painted On Souls.
Holli, Charles and Kasha Matthews set out on an explosive journey in this multiracial family saga that begins in the bitter cold of 1970s mid-America. They must fight the “fleshes” of the world, and the skeletons of their past on their quest for love. Charles, a black hustler, clings to the streets, his love affair with lust, and the memory of the mother who abandoned him. Holli, a former stripper who grew up within the white confines of an abusive father, must battle her own childhood scars.
Once they divorce, the estranged lovers take separate paths that lead them to turmoil and addiction – leaving Kasha, their biracial daughter, to raise herself. A gifted artist, she must face molestation, promiscuity, an identity crisis and her mother’s vices. Can Holli and Charles come to grips in enough time to save their daughter?
“When I sat down to write Painted On Souls, I wanted to portray the human characteristics that are inherent in all of us, regardless of race. In short, I want to move people beyond the color line and embrace what makes us all God’s people,” she said about her first novel.
Marchel Alverson is a former associate editor of Women in Business magazine, and is currently a freelance journalist. She is a graduate of Central Missouri State University and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. A native of Kansas City, Mo., she lives in with her husband and two children. She is a member of the Tampa Writer's Alliance.
Painted On Souls is now available on the author’s website, or by calling 1-301-695-1707. It is also being distributed by Baker & Taylor and Ingrams, and online at Amazon.com and BN.com.
