March 16, 2006 (Press Release) --
HUDSON, N.Y./ARTDAILY.COM. March 16, 2006 --- A contemporary collection of original Studio Furniture started its exhibit at Sharada Gallery. The Gallery 's primary focus is on studio furniture and made its debut on December 2, 2005. The collection of Studio Furniture are one-of-a-kind, hand made by various artists, and is a delight for admirers and collectors of this art.
Sharada Mia, a former magazine art director from New York City who seeks furniture, which shows the innovative and free-spirited nature of the American culture, owns the Gallery. "I want people to understand the significance of the studio furniture movement " Mia said. The furniture in the Gallery is of the finest quality and workmanship and expresses itself culturally, historically and artistically.
The Studio Furniture Makers are a diverse group of innovative and dynamic artists who work in small studios, either alone or with a few highly trained assistants. The resumes of Sharada Gallery's artists represent some of the most innovative, conceptual and creative makers. Jon Brooks, Andy Buck, John Eric Byers, Timothy Coleman, Derek Secor Davis, Mark Del Guidice, Michael Gregorio, Sean Orenich, Paul Henry and Keith Tompkins are some of the featured artists.
Since the 1940s, there has been a marked interest on studio furniture. Studio furniture makers have already caused flurries in the collecting and museum worlds with the work of Wharton Esherick (1887-1970), George Nakashima (1905-1990), Sam Maloof (b.1916) and Wendell Castle (1932). The field has gained strong attention in the last 25 years by collectors and scholars of contemporary woodworking. The Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American Art collects furniture by furniture makers.
Sharada Gallery is on Warren Street in historic Hudson, N.Y., just two hours north of Manhattan, home to many fine art galleries and fine antique shops.
