The Boca Raton Museum of Art has acquired an original Jesse Kalisher print. The print titled "Mona Lisa at the Mona Lisa" will become part of the permanent collection at the Boca Museum.

Chapel Hill, NC (March 20, 2006) – The Jesse Kalisher Gallery announced today that the Boca Raton Museum of Art has acquired an original Jesse Kalisher print from Kalisher’s Art Watching Collection.
The Boca Museum is the first in the country to acquire this particular print, titled “Mona Lisa at the Mona Lisa,” for its permanent collection.
Although this is the museum debut for “Mona Lisa at the Mona Lisa,” Kalisher’s work is not unfamiliar to permanent collections. Several museums around the country have acquired Kalisher’s work including the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore and the DeYoung Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco and the San Jose Museum of Art. Selected pieces from his "Human Race at Work" collection were recently on exhibit at The Oakland Museum of California for one year. In addition to all of this, his work has been exhibited at Chicago’s Field Museum, Photo S.F., Photo L.A., and San Francisco’s Commonwealth Club.
Kalisher’s print will join an impressive photography collection at the Boca Museum, one that represents a plethora of 20th century photography masters including Dorothea Lange, Ansel Adams, and Walker Evans. The museum, which was recently named the “Official Fine Arts Museum for the City of Boca Raton,” celebrates 55 years of existence in 2006.
“I am honored that my work will be displayed alongside such revered photographers,” says Kalisher whose work has often been compared to that of the artists he respects and admires. Drew Johnson of the Oakland Museum of California touts Kalisher as “an important photographer in the tradition of Dorothea Lange.”
Museum acquisitions are not the only thing keeping Kalisher busy today. His new book “if you find the Buddha” is in print and due for a May release by publisher Chronicle Books. The book is a collection of 93 color images of The Buddha shot in the United States in Thailand. Even with all of this on his plate, Kalisher still finds the time to continually add to his collection of more than 1000 images. "I am fascinated by the world we live in," Kalisher says, "and I consider myself lucky to be able to photograph it.”
