LOCAL ARTIST TACKLES MONSTER
PLANO, TEXAS -- Michael Holt, owner of Art Angel Studio, a freelance design studio located in north Texas, is attempting to tackle a monster-sized project by collecting one million photos to create an enormous mosaic art piece. Once completed, the final artwork, titled “Face of Change”, will be sold at auction and the proceeds will be given to support global, national, state and local charitable organizations.
This experiment is called “The Pixel Pop Art Project” and is being developed to create pop culture art history by assembling a mosaic art piece made up of half-inch photos of participants collected on the web page. More information is available on the web site at: http://www.pixelpopart.com
Do not confuse this with one of the thousands of “million pixel page” knockoffs on the Internet. The Pixel Pop Art Project will be creating a real-life, large-scale art piece NOT filling up a web site with thousands of advertisements and company logos. The posting of photos on the web site is simply to showcase supporters of the project as it develops.
One million half-inch photos would create an art piece that measures forty-three feet tall and wide; approximately the size of a four-story building. When asked why someone would attempt to create such an art piece Holt stated, “The idea is to create something historic that represents a slice of Pop Culture by immortalizing people in a permanent art piece. A collection of people that believe in supporting change to better our world,
our country, and our communities. Its about dreaming big.”
Half of the $10 fee to join the project will be given to specific charitable organizations.
“Keep in mind I am not collecting money for charity”, Holt added, “I am attempting to create a huge art piece to represent people that believe a positive change is needed in the world. It is my person choice to give half the funds to support these organizations.”
The Pixel Pop Art Project funds will be used to support the ONE campaign by sending each participant a ONE wristband to show their support, the Global Fund, Habitat for Humanity, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, and the North Texas Food Bank.
“Five dollars from each participant will be used to support these organizations on a monthly basis,” says Holt, “Just imagine it. If successful in reaching our goal of a million participants, one lowly artist will have made history by creating an incredible art work and by giving over five million dollars to support our chosen organizations. I challenge any one person to match that percentage.”
