With the aim to discuss signing of bilateral Free Trade Agreement between Dhaka and Islamabad, Commerce Minister of Pakistan Humayun Akhtar Khan will come to Bangladesh for a three-day visit on April 19, sources said.
This visit of Pakistan Commerce Minister is to go for the FTA and to finalise the agreement by September 30 this year in compliance with the accord reach during the visit of Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia to Islamabad in February this year.
An official of Pakistan High Commission in Bangladesh at an interview earlier with this correspondent said —FTA negotiation was a part of a major agenda on Pakistan’s mind for enhancing trade between the two brotherly countries.
In bilateral trade Pakistan always remains the gainer. Bangladesh suffered a trade deficit of Tk 142.64 crore with Pakistan during the first quarter of fiscal year 2005-06 with Bangladesh's exports totalling Tk 64.29 crore and imports amounting to Tk 206.93 crore.
