April 1, 2006 (Press Release) --
Spring is quickly approaching and another season of trapping and relocation nuisance animals, such as raccoons, opossum, skunks, rats, mice, moles and coyotes will be upon us. Normally animal calls begin to rise mid to late April each year. However this year the number of calls we have received January through March has tripled previous years.
Although the total numbers of animals trapped throughout the a given year is hard to accurately predict, the following table shows an early indication of animal movement in the slow trapping periods of January through March.
Jan-Mar 05 Jan-Mar 06 Increase
Raccoons 8 25 312 %
Opossum 12 22 183 %
Squirrels 20 40 100 %
Ground Hogs 1 3 300 %
Skunks 4 12 300 %
We believe that our trapping increase are due to the mild weather that we have enjoyed this year. Animals that normally hibernate through March are venturing out early. We believe this can be an indication of the total numbers of animals we may trap this year.
“I believe that this year will be more active and we can expect to spend many long hours and days trapping this season. As an animal trapper, I get to experience how wildlife and humans interact with each other in sometimes very comical ways.” Said Trapper Ron Baker, Owner.
