April 5, 2006 (Press Release) --
Atlanta, GA April 1, 2006— America's teenagers are mesmerized by the money and “bling” of celebrities and professional athletes who are heavily displayed in music videos, TV shows and movies. These unrealistic images of wealth in the media distort life's realities and produce impractical mental imagery of how wealth is really created and how successful businesses operate.
School, church, political and youth leaders along with parents all agree they need help in effectively preventing and ending the apathetic attitude of teenagers and developing them into productive leaders. Young Leaders Unlimited (YLU) has the answer and business leaders have partnered with YLU on its charge for 1 million teens to “Stand Up, Stand Out”.
Young Leaders Unlimited (YLU), through its joint venture partnership with a 10-year old international youth training organization, has developed two progressive faith-based training programs: 1) Young CEO, an entrepreneurial program and 2) Young Wealth-Builder, a financial literacy program. Throughout the United States, the turn-key programs are delivered on-site to local organizations through a variety of mediums.
“Biblical stories are saturated with relevant business and financial strategies, ethical and character principles to help equip youths to make smart financial decisions and become thriving entrepreneurs. Teens just need to see practical applications and experience results,” said Dr. Robert Watkins, Founder and Chairman of Young Leaders Unlimited, an affiliate of Kings & Priests International.
Recent research shows that almost half of all parents surveyed said they don’t set a good example when it comes to handling their own money and are not capable of properly teaching their children. Teens, in America, earn hundreds of billions each year, but save and invest only a very small percentage; seventy percent (70%) of high school students want to launch their own business, yet the same seventy percent (70%) said they lack knowledge about entrepreneurship.
The idiom “At-Risk Teens” is a cliché in America’s mainstream; everyone is really “At-Risk” without the proper education, coaching and mentorship. The mission of YLU is to mentor, guide and train teenagers to develop character, run profitable businesses and build wealth to support their families, churches and communities,” said Michael Daniel, President & Chief Operating Officer of Young Leaders Unlimited.
This summer, YLU will host three Young CEO Summer Camps in the heart of Atlanta’s financial and business district. Teens will have the opportunity to tour businesses and participate in a Business Plan Challenge, where they present their business plans to a panel of judges comprised of local business leaders.
