Mr. Torres is one of a handful of bilingual direct marketers who founded in 1991 the Direct Marketing Department at Young and Rubicam’s The Bravo Group. Starting as a copywriter, he advanced as Bravo Direct grew to become the largest agency-based Direct Marketing department in the US. In 1995 he was promoted to Creative Director.
In 1995, Mr. Torres was recruited by Ogilvy & Mather’s Miami office, where he worked as Latin American Regional Creative Director for the IBM and American Express accounts through 1999. After a one-year stint in Madrid at a local agency, in 2000 Mr. Torres was called back to Bravo.
In a 15-year career, Mr. Torres has been involved in the nation’s most ambitious Hispanic Direct Marketing efforts by non-profits and major corporations, including, AARP, Aegon, American Express, AT&T, Banco Popular, Cendant, Covenant House, Columbia House, HBO, IBM, Kraft, Liberty Mutual, Showtime, The New York Times, Time Warner Cable, Unicef, Visa and USPS.
“We’re very proud to include Carlos in our ranks,” said Humberto Freydell, founder of Directo Hispano and Partner, Client Services, “There are few people in the country with his experience both as Creative and Planner. We go back over a decade, in a couple of agencies, serving some of the most active accounts in the US Hispanic and Latin America markets”.
Mr. Torres and Mr. Freydell met as students at New York University’s Direct Marketing Program in 1994. They worked together in Bravo and Ogilvy & Mather’s Latin America division.
Directo Hispano was founded in 2004 implementing a new business model partnering with Hispanic and General Market agencies to provide Bilingual Direct Marketing services. This new model, says Humberto Freydell, “allows us to be lean, efficient at a very competitive pricing structure”.
Directo Hispano partners list includes AARP as well as several Hispanic and General Market agencies.
A native of Colombia, Carlos F. Torres has studied, lived and worked throughout Latin America and Europe. He is fluent in English, French and Spanish. Married to Jacqueline Rocco, with whom he has 2 children, Erika Michelle 8 and Paul Stephane, 5.
