A most wanted criminal of old Town in the capital city of Dhaka in Bangladesh was killed in shootout between his associates and the police, raising the death toll from encounter to 524 since June 2004.
The police said Shamim Alam Guddu, a resident of Lalmohan Saha Street, was also a criminal listed with a local police station, and accused in a dozen cases, including seven for murder.
He was accused of killing of a Dhaka city ward commissioner, Binoy Sarker Bina.
The police picked up Guddu from the house of his father-in-law at Jatrabari and took him on a two-day remand. During the interrogation, Guddu told the police that his associates had in possession of some firearms and stolen cars. Later police went to recover the stolen vehicles and some firearms, where Guddu’s associated opened fire on the members of law enforcing agencies. Taking the advantage of the situation, Guddu tried to escape from police custody. At this stage, police opened fire. Later it was found that notorious criminal Guddu died in encounter.
