Two sensitive aircraft flight simulators, each worth $10 million, have been successfully delivered to the Wheeler Air Force Base at Honolulu, Hawaii by Mallory Alexander International Logistics.

MEMPHIS, Tennessee -- Two sensitive aircraft flight simulators, each worth $10 million, have been successfully delivered to the Wheeler Air Force Base at Honolulu, Hawaii by Mallory Alexander International Logistics (www.mallorygroup.com).
Manufactured by L3 Communications, the simulators are built as integral 53-foot dry van trailers for portability. The highly sensitive units can be moved only under tightly controlled conditions including these requirements:
must remain dry during transit
can be subjected only to a limited range of g-forces
cannot be tilted at an angle exceeding 10 degrees
Preparations for the shipments started several months in advance, with planning by Mallory Alexander covering all foreseeable contingencies. "As a freight forwarder and NVOCC, we specialize in handling sensitive shipments like these," says Charlie Mathews, Sales Manager for Mallory Alexander. "This shipment was particularly sensitive and it had to move on a very tight schedule, so we made sure that our plans were complete before we accepted delivery at San Diego."
The flight simulators are self-sufficient, with all the technology, training stations and debriefing facilities built into the trailers. They provide simulations across a wide range of aircraft types. Because of the advanced technology and sensitive equipment included, they must be handled with great care.
Prior to below-deck loading aboard the ship bound for Hawaii, the units were thoroughly dried and completely shrink-wrapped. G-force sensors -- which would trip if acceptable forces were exceeded -- were installed and inspected. Even tire inflation was carefully checked before movement. "It required an extra effort on our part, but it was quite rewarding to make a successful delivery of these critical units to our armed forces," says Mathews.
