Taking the building materials trade online with a young startup.
A small Washington, DC startup has big plans and a tall order to fill. Not that their idea is new to anyone. A few have tried before and a handful remain.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) April 12, 2006 --
The founders of Buildbuy.com know that they face a long and difficult road ahead. They plan on taking up it to the next level by making it easier to buy building materials online by giving the buyer the option of choosing from multiple suppliers.
The idea of Buildbuy.com sprung from one cnversation about what was the best deal out there as far as materials for building. The founders wondered why building materials were so elusive on
the Internet. Only a handful of sites came to mind and yet there was not one that offered a one stop
shop for a variety of products. In renovations you look for drywall, tile, hardware, doors, windows
and the list goes on, all at the same time. But to do this online at one site is impossible.
"I wanted to build a site that would allow me to search for a product, view multiple suppliers, compare and buy online. To compare is the key here. I want to look at A,B,C and D before I spend my dollar. The way it works now is I see A and I most likely buy A." says Shy Nair the 37 seven year old
co founder. Buildbuy.com is going to let a buyer compare product offerings from several suppliers. Prices, terms, specifications, delivery options and availability will all be openly listed so the buyer can make the most informed decision. The site will combine an on going auction and a searchable product listings forum.
As Buildbuy.com is building they have continued to talk to the industry suppliers and the trade
associations to develop the site using the industries feedback. As Horace Jennings one of these co founders states "We are building it for them. Consulting with the industry is a must if we are to expect them to be actively involved in the site. Our vision is to have suppliers check the site daily to post and edit offers and to respond to buyer queries". Horace is also heading up the marketing efforts and helping get the suppliers lined up and ready to use Buildbuy. "Not a problem." he says "Buildbuy.com is going to be the best way to sell your product online. Once I show them the site and how easy it is to navigate, they see this as another way to broaden their reach."
The building materials industry has global reach with yearly growth that is enviable by any measure. Buildbuy has hopes to tap into the market place and give buyers the tools needed to shop online. "We believe that if we build it they (the buyers) will come..." Ms Nair says. If management's excitement alone could determine success then this company would be a sure bet. But Ms Nair is quick to point to the fact that Buildbuy's success depends on the suppliers. "If there is a good deal out there then the buyers will find it" she states.
The planned launch of the site will take place later this year. Industry experts we spoke to all agree that with online usage growing in the construction industry and the constant search for bargains by consumers and builders alike the cards are stacking up in Buildbuy.com's favor. Recent surveys have pointed to the increased use of the Internet to locate and research building supplies.
Buildbuy.com is working on making those searches easier for the buyers.
