April 12, 2006 (Press Release) --
South San Francisco, CA, April 12, 2006
BioCardia, Inc. has released the Morph® 8 French “Goblin” deflectable tip guide catheter with a 6.1 French lumen. This latest Morph® product family member is based on state-of-the-art catheter technology that provides the ability to change the distal shape of the guide to navigate within the patient anatomy. Products with this technology have been used in more than 800 clinical cases to date with a perfect safety record.
“The Morph® product family enables personalizing the guide catheter geometry to the patients' anatomy and the disease presentation”, says BioCardia CEO, Peter Altman. “We believe this makes for a safer and speedier intervention for the surgeon and patient. The Morph® product line is already becoming important for treating serious vascular disease where precision and control for local device and therapeutic intervention are important. We are proud of this new Morph® “Goblin” device family and the engineering team that realized its advances.”
This new Morph® catheter has an increased internal diameter enabling the passage of a broader array of interventional devices, including large 6 French peripheral stents and atherectomy devices. It is also more trackable than previous Morph® products enabling it to navigate more complicated anatomy. Its distal tip can be curved up to 180 degrees by the physician during a procedure.
Morph® catheters are based on micro machined nitinol shaft technology to provide control and precision. BioCardia's previous 8 French Morph® product has been used with success in: renal arteries, AAA graft implantations, iliac arteries, femoral arteries, celiac arteries, superior mesenteric arteries, lumbar artery coilings, coronary arteries, cardiac chambers, access to carotid arteries, and other applications. The safety record with this device is stellar, and BioCardia continues to be vigilant with respect to quality and physician service to maintain this record.
The Morph® is also the navigational backbone for BioCardia’s Helix TM biotherapeutic delivery platform for biointerventional cardiology. Improvements in the Morph® catheter also benefit the Helix TM biotherapeutic delivery catheter systems. There are significant advantages to this platform for local delivery of cells, genes, and proteins to solid organs.
