April 17, 2006 (Press Release) --
NA'ALEHU, HI—APRIL 16, 2006— “Old Money”, the long-awaited second in the Ely Stone series by David Walks-As-Bear has its stateside unveiling. The novel debuted in March, 2006 at the ‘Left Coast Crime’ writer’s conference in Great Britain. This month marks its American release. For fans of Walks-As-Bear,this is a welcomed new arrival. All of the advance copies sent to England sold-out within one day.
Readers like David Walks-As-Bear and the Ely Stone series because of the author’s writing style and the series protagonist, Ely Stone. Although "Old Money" is a bit different with its Hawaiian setting (the series novels are normally set in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula) reading fans won’t be disappointed. “Old Money” still carries the 'ghost-like' Native American protagonist which is Ely Stone. And all of the other familiar characters are there, too.
In "Old Money", Walks-As-Bear packs enough thrilling mysticism, gut-wrenching action and romance into the thriller to make the book a definiete page turner. This novel is unusual with its mystical and spiritual storyline - "Visiting with the Grandfathers"- and its unique plot involving modern-day terrorists interspaced with historical fact. The latter could not be more topical in a novel drenched in mysticism and history. Below, a synopsis of “Old Money”.
Tribal Cop Ely Stone returns and falls into another case in which death wreathes at every turn. Beautiful women, modern-day terror, Hawaiian mysticism, and American Indian medicine are all intertwined. But also drifting in this haunting sea is the famous writer, Mark Twain and an old Confederate warship – the C.S.S. Shenandoah. Why are both, Twain and this eerie man-o-war sailing in Stone’s already crowded world? He doesn’t know as he’s got crazy movies playing in his mind. Stone is tormented by hauntingly bizarre visions that make him doubt his very sanity. But these nightmares have nothing to do with him or do they? Ely tries to piece the puzzle but in the end, perhaps he finds the answer is much closer to home. Closer than he ever would have imagined. Is Stone going crazy? He's not sure. But you can bet your OLD MONEY that time... will tell.
