April 20, 2006 (Press Release) --
Physiotherapy patients are put through a wide variety of treatment techniques in an effort to help them recover from injury or improve physical performance. The challenge for therapists is to get them back to the level of strength that they need without pain or setting their recovery back. Montreal personal trainer Shawn Mozen has introduced several physiotherapy patients to Kettlebell practice with remarkable results. The global nature of Kettlebell exercises makes them ideal for building all around strength without the danger of causing further injury to a specific area.
Kettlebells are compact, virtually indestructible, cannonball like weights that have a thick handle. Kettlebell training involves compound exercises that work multiple muscle groups simultaneously, and consequently develop strength and muscular endurance throughout the entire body. Unlike traditional bodybuilding exercises that seek to isolate and sculpt a muscle, Kettlebell training requires coordinating several muscle groups. It seeks to integrate one’s breathing, movement and alignment along with the ability to control and balance the weight. This multidimensional approach keeps clients challenged and interested in performing the exercises properly.
Kettlebell practice has been successful in helping treat clients with neck and shoulder pain as well as helping clients who have knee problems. Typically those with knee problems find it very difficult to exercise and strengthen their legs without causing damage to their knees. Kettlebell training has offered these patients the means to improve their leg, and indeed overall strength without any trauma to their trouble area.
Shawn Mozen has been involved with Kettlebell training since 2003. Through his company Agatsu Inc. he has published the only Canadian workbook and instructional DVDs on the subject, and continues to share his knowledge through seminars and private training.
