In less than a decade, Ghana, African-born musician Selasee Atiase has gone from a cappella singing with buddies on a street corner in the town of Accra to having one of his infectious blends of reggae, pop and West African Hi-Life music, "Run," featured on one of the world's best-selling video games. EA Sports FIFA 2006 is the latest edition in a series which sells over six million units annually worldwide; Selasee is the first Ghana native to have a song on the popular sports title and, perhaps not coincidentally, his native land qualified for the 2006 World Cup in Germany for the very first time.
After landing a spot on the prestigious MIDEM 2006 Buzz Bands showcase, the Montreal-based Selasee's music is currently impacting airwaves and enjoying success across the United States, Europe and West Africa. And most recently, Selasee has taken top honors with the International Songwriting Competition; placing first in the World Music category and second in the People's Choice category.
