April 27, 2006 (Press Release) --
(Washington D.C.) AMERICA!, the nation’s foremost multi-channel retailer of American-themed products via airport stores, online, and a mail order catalog, will donate over $10,000 in 2006 to aid in breast cancer research, reaching the ambitious goal set forth by the company. AMERICA! increased this year’s target donation over 2005 and is proud to present the Nina Hyde Center for Breast Cancer Research with the donation.
The Blossoms to Benefit program links seasonal sales of cherry blossom merchandise to breast cancer awareness and is the brainchild of AMERICA!’s impassioned President, Jane Crawford. After overcoming breast cancer for the second time, Crawford seized the opportunity to spread a hopeful message via the business that she started in 1988. “A second diagnosis of cancer 7 years out was a profound reminder of how susceptible we may be to the disease. It triggered in me a strong desire to draw on the successes of my business as a means to help others,” said Crawford.
The Nina Hyde Center for Breast Cancer Research at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University was established in 1989 as a tribute to Nina Hyde who reigned as fashion editor of The Washington Post for 18 years. When breast cancer befell her, Nina Hyde reached out to educate and inform others. She fervently believed in the benefits of early detection and in research as the vehicle that would eventually provide a cure for breast cancer.
AMERICA! would like to extend thanks to everyone that participated in the program. To learn more about AMERICA!, visit the homepage at http://www.americastore.com To learn more about the Nina Hyde Center for Breast Cancer Research, visit http://lombardi.georgetown.edu
