April 28, 2006 (Press Release) --
"Bridging audition, language, and cognitive processing"
Children with certain disorders (e.g., attention deficit hyperactivity disorder [ADHD], autism spectrum disorders) are prone to problems in language, cognitive ability, and auditory perceptual difficulties and often require approaches unique to their needs.
Since some disorders may coexist, Dr. Hooks implements a holistic and integrated approach to the evaluation and treatment of auditory processing disorder and language impairment. He is a strong proponent of multi-sensory input (auditory, visual, tactile) and its capacity to bridge audition, language, and cognitive processing.
Dr. Hooks completed Masters degrees in both audiology and speech pathology. He earned his doctorate degree from Michigan State University with an emphasis in audiology and neuroscience.
As both an audiologist and speech-language pathologist certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and licensed by the state of Illinois, Dr. Hooks specializes in the identification, assessment, and treatment of auditory and language processing disorders. He has over 15 years of professional practice in communicative disorders with children and adults.
He is accepting new patients and is available to give presentations on topics in childhood and adult communicative disorders including language processing, brain and speech development, auditory processing disorder, Alzheimer disease and dementia, developmental delay, dysphagia (swallowing disorders), reading failure, and post-stroke rehabilitation.
