May 1, 2006 (Press Release) --
Morgan Lovell, the West Midland’s leading work place transformation specialist, has beaten off national competition to win a substantial office design and build contract for the refurbishment of the national headquarters of PayPoint plc in Welwyn Garden City.
The Birmingham based office fit-out specialist this week will start work on the 21-week programme in Hertfordshire, which will be home to around 250 staff.
PayPoint is one of the UK’s leading premier branded networks for the convenient local payment of household bills, mobile top-ups and in-store LINK cash dispensers. The firm, which has more than 17,500 outlets across the UK, has recently expanded onto the ground floor of its building and now occupies the entire two-storey 35,000 sq ft premises.
Paul Downing, Managing Director of Morgan Lovell’s Birmingham office said: “This is our first significant project outside the Midlands and signals a successful beginning for our national growth strategy from Birmingham. This project is more than just a total refurbishment of a 1980’s building; it is an entire transformation of the building’s dynamics.”
The space inside the two-storey building will be converted into an open plan office, removing the existing dark and cellular space that prevented huge swathes of natural light from the building. It will also incorporate meeting rooms and multi-function conference suites designed to the highest standard, showcasing the latest features, including video conferencing capabilities.
One of the key concerns of PayPoint was the expansion of staff onto two separate floors. This has been addressed by Morgan Lovell who will create a monolithic spiral staircase in the centre of the building that will not only be aesthetically pleasing but will link the two floors together for greater working efficiency.
Staff is remaining on site during the seven month office transformation which includes installing a gym, restaurant and cyber café, break out facilities and meeting areas.
Paypoint Finance Director George Earle said: “We were occupying the first floor of an existing two storey building in Shire Park and had an option to take the ground floor of the building. As the business is expanding and demands operational continuity we needed an integrated solution that would improve working conditions for our people in a professional environment whilst minimising disruption during the refurbishment.
“Morgan Lovell came across as being the best team, providing innovative design ideas and an outstanding approach to meet our tight timescales. Their plans have completely changed the dynamics of the building and our staff, having seen computer visuals and in-house briefings, can all see the positive impact this will have on the day to day operation of the business. We will soon be proud occupiers of an efficient, state of the art contemporary working environment tailor made for our needs.”
Paul Downing added: “The company office is no longer just a place of work. More than ever, it is becoming a strategic means of expressing corporate identity and a powerful tool in attracting and retaining staff. Paypoint agreed unanimously with this ethos and our designs clearly reflect these essential elements.”
