The Hope 4 Melissa benefit will take place this Sunday, May 7 at noon in Brookings, South Dakota for 21-month--old Melissa Kerkhove who suffers from infantile spasm seizures and is getting help from hyperbaric oxygen therapy, but must travel to Madison, Wisc. for the treatment.

Melissa Kerkhove was born on July 28, 2004. The first six months of her life she had very little development. She had trouble doing the simplest of things like holding up her head and supporting her body. She smiled only occasionally. At six months old she wasn't even trying to roll over or play with toys. At six-and-a-half months old Melissa started having infantile spasm seizures, a few weeks later she had her first of many grand mal seizures.
The treatment of hyperbaric oxygen therapy is helping but it’s expensive, the family must travel to Madison, Wisc., and it is not covered by insurance for her condition. The benefit will help offset the costs. For more on her treatment, visit www.ihausa.org
