He said, “from my perspective as a young Black man, we go through a lot of things in life, to have a woman be there with you, to help you endure the pain, shame and suffering,. . . my real inspiration came from my mom. . .the song was written from the heart. . . “

In November, 2004, his artist, K-Ruger signed with Def Jam. He said, that this put Str8Lace Recordings on the entertainment map. However, this accomplishment was short-lived, secondary to the fateful Monday, September 19, 2005, his artist K-Ruger killed himself. K-Ruger was recognized when Jay-Z signed him as his first artist (Str8Lace / Def Jam), after he became President of Def Jam Records. Jay-Z stated that “K-Ruger is like a breath of fresh air and exactly what the rap game needed. . .”
After the tragic and unexpected death of K-Ruger, he said he made the decision to reorganize, strengthen, diversify and keep his record label visible, so he decided to market himself.
