The Grand Finale for the farewell of Prof. Venkateswaran who is retiring as Vice-Chancellor after serving BITS Pilani for the past three decades in various capacities was organized on May 10, 2006 at the packed Central Auditorium of the Institute.
The evening started off with an excellent flash presentation by the students of the Institute highlighting Prof Venkateswaran's achievements.
The audience were mesmerized by the renderings of Ragamalika which was followed by the scholars from the Sanskrit college at Pilani reciting sacred hymns.
Senior citizens of the Campus Mr and Mrs Shambu Das greeted Prof Venkateswaran and Mrs Nagalakshmi Venkateswaran with specially commissioned Sandalwood Garlands.
Dr VS Rao read out the citation highlighting Prof Venkateswaran's achievements in English and then Sri Madanlal Sharma in Hindi.
After the neat speech by the President of the BITS students union, a group of students presented Prof Venkateswaran a marvellous portrait of their beloved VC and an exotic velvet banner containing signatures of over 2000 students.
The President of BITSAA Prof RK Mittal spoke about Prof Venkateswaran's passion for the Alumni activities and with his alumni team handed to the retiring VC a booklet containing farewell messages from various individual alumni as well as various alumni chapters.
Mr BK Sharma, Mr Azad Verma and Mr Anil Malik from IIQM Jaipur which is one of the collaborating organizations of the Institute gave him a colorful bouquet specially brought from Delhi by the Dean of Students Prof G Sundar.
Prof NV Muralidhar Rao along with two groups of staff members from the Institute presented to Prof Venkateswaran an elegantly carved shining silver emblem of the Institute and a specially designed poster depicting the towering personality Prof Venkateswaran with the Institute Tower.
Dr Chandrasekhar from CEERI and BET Colonel Ratnakar shared their special comments about Prof Venkateswaran.
Prof Ramachandran Director of BITS Pilani Dubai Campus was emphatic in calling Prof Venkateswaran an institution himself. Prof TC Goel Director of BITS Pilani Goa Campus presented the retiring VC a special mememto of the Goa Campus.
The directors of the four campuses of BITS Pilani together presented Prof Venkateswaran a specially conceived poster of the pictures of four campuses with the retiring VC in the middle of the poster with his hand close to the heart.
Dr Nirupama Prakash with her team from Centre for Women Studies (CWS) presented Mrs Venkateswaran a never seen before memento containing the logo of CWS designed by Ms Ankita Sachan a student of BITS Pilani. This was followed by another team of women from the Institute presenting Mrs Venkateswaran a traditional lamp.
Prof LK Maheshwari the successor to Prof Venkateswaran presented the retiring VC a silver plate with the institute emblem. Prof Venkateswaran spoke at length about his style of management and expressed confidence that his successor would add greater values in the years to come by bringing a new voice and speak from a fresh perspective.
