May 16, 2006 (Press Release) --
A sharp blow has hit Google search engine recently when the U.S. Department of Justice decided they will not pursue complaints about Microsoft's decision to include search functionality in version 7. This decision has hit Google, who recently said they wanted special treatment with IE (Internet Explorer) software produced by Microsoft Corporation, and fiery competitors of the search engine giant Google, who own 50% market share.
"Google wants us to prompt the users to change the defaults. They want to see a list of search providers, with the No. 1 search provider listed first," said Ballmer, who was speaking generally and not recounting a formal meeting or discussion with Google executives.
With Google being the giant, it would have meant users would see them before other search engines such as Yahoo, and Ask, who’s market share is approximately 25%.
Research done by Arcon5.com shows that Google is the preferable and a better known search engine by 70% of its 1,046 respondents. With reasons including “ease of use”, and “good quality of search results”.
Microsoft hope to increase their market share with their MSN Search. Microsoft’s entry in to the search engine market was late, which is “regrettable” according to a Microsoft official. Microsoft is taking this market more seriously these days, with their previous decision to increase their investments in MSN by 60%.
