Custom Fit Golf Clubs Won't Help Me - I'm Not Very Good.

What goes into a custom fit and built golf club? Who benefits and by how much? We will try and separate some of the myths from realities for those who don't know how golf clubs work.

Boulder City, NV. 05/16/2006

About 70% of golfers who were asked whether or not they were considering getting fit for their next set of clubs said, "Yes". However, there are some myths surrounding golf club performance that must be addressed before a golfer can truly understand what a custom fit golf club will do for their game.

Unrealistic Expectations?

For the average player, walking into a fitting session expecting to find another 20 to 30 yards off the tee is very improbable. Chances are very good you are hitting the ball about as far as you can ever expect to. Our goal as clubfitters is to optimize the golf clubs to the players swing. Our goal is to get the golfer matched to a club that gives them the highest percentage of 'on center' hits with that club.

I'm A Hack! Custom Clubs Will Not Help Me.

Wrong! You are the ideal candidate for custom fit golf clubs! Those who struggle with consistency are struggling with hitting 'on center' shots. Pro players can adjust their swing to a club that isn't an ideal match for them after a handful of shots. Average players, on the other hand, don't have that ability. They NEED the clubs to be matched to the way they swing.

What Is 'Custom' About A Custom Club?

There are several golf club parameters that affect a golfer's ability to achieve distance, accuracy, and consistency in their golf shots with different clubs. The clubfitter's job is to find the characteristics that influence these categories and figure out which ones the player wants to change. The end result is a club that looks like any other, but is specifically built around a determined set of characteristics unique to THAT golfer.
