Through a series of articles and essays Patrick J.Gallo in his new book, Pius XII, The Holocaust And The Revisionists published by McFarland &Company the author critiques the works of the resisionists and refutes their major claims. The essays analyze the reasons for the major shift in historical interpretation of Pius XII from one that was highly supportive and favorable during the World War II and well into the early sixties to an abrupt and radical departure therafter. The essays attempt to provide context for not only what Pius XII said but what he did to rescue the persecuted. Gallo explores Pius XII collaboration with German anti-Hitler conspirators, Hitler's plot to kidnap the Pope, the,the attempt to halt the deportation of Hungarian Jews, the Nazi elite obsession with the Pope and the Catholic Church. Gallo criticizes many of the revisionists for their projection of their own agendas and for their failure to read the actual documents that are available to all researchers. The author brings intellectual rigor and responsibility to the issue and makes a solid contribution to the history of papacy and to the biography of Pius XII.
