According to students, these ten schools are the toughest to get into, and the competition doesn't stop at admissions. Find out if the school you want to attend (or went to) is on the list.

May 18, 2006 (Press Release) -- Surfside dorms, classically ivy-covered brick buildings, winter havens, unflagging sunshine: Sometimes, happiness is all about location. According to The Princeton Review's annual survey of college students, these ten schools offer some of the best college real estate you can find.
1. Pepperdine University (Malibu, California)
"Not too far from L.A.," you'll find the oceanside community of Malibu, where there is a high incidence of celebrity sightings, great surf, and unfailing sunshine. And right there in the heart of Malibu's Santa Monica Mountains sits Pepperdine University. For many students, "the beach is visible" from their dorm rooms and when they finally pull themselves from their "breathtaking" bedside views, they "walk to class with the Pacific Ocean right there."

Students who considered Pepperdine also looked at Chapman University, Loyola Marymount University, Santa Clara University, and University of San Diego.

2. Agnes Scott College (Atlanta, Georgia)
When they can make the time, many Scotties simply hang out in their "absolutely amazing dorms with high ceilings and hardwood floors" and stare out at the "beautiful campus with large trees, flowers, a gorgeous quad, historic buildings, and an easy design."

Students who considered Agnes Scott also looked at Bryn Mawr College, Oglethorpe University, Sarah Lawrence College, and Smith College.

3. Sweet Briar College (Sweet Briar, Virginia)
As one student says, "Any student from anywhere can find something they love about this place. If you're an outdoors person, you'll be in heaven. If you are more of a city girl, there is all manner of shopping and clubbing within 30 minutes of driving." The college's campus "is beautiful and quickly feels like home rather than a school." The dorms "are gorgeous as well."

Students who considered Sweet Briar also looked at College of William and Mary, Hollins University, University of Mary Washington, and Villanova University.

4. College of the Atlantic (Bar Harbor, Maine)
Bar Harbor, famous for its bracing winters, boasts nearby Acadia National Park as its extended campus, which makes for "the best backyard a college student could ask for." Students accordingly spend as much time outdoors as possible. "Finding favorite beautiful hikes, walks, or study spots has become a four-year goal," reports one student.

Students who considered College of the Atlantic also looked at Bennington College, Colorado College, Emerson College, and Reed College.

5. Mercer University (Macon, Georgia)
Located smack in the middle of the Peach State, Mercer's campus is dotted with stately trees and brick buildings--making what, along with "very friendly" peers, most students describe as an "atmosphere of southern hospitality."

Students who considered Mercer also looked at Auburn University, Elon University, Furman University, and Georgia Institute of Technology.

6. Flagler College (St. Augustine, Florida)
Favorite perk for Flagler students? "Studying at the beach!" Students challenge, "Beat that, Harvard, Yale, or Princeton!" Though no boys are allowed in the girls' dorm, the female students adore their building: the former famous Ponce de Leon Hotel, where each room is different.

Students who considered Flagler also looked at Eckerd College, New College of Florida, Rollins College, and Stetson University.

7. Rhodes College (Memphis, Tennessee)
Acres of woods and gothic stone architecture--much of it on the National Register of Historic Places--give the Oxford-like campus at Rhodes an air of serious beauty. Beyond campus is Memphis, "an awesome city."

Students who considered Rhodes also looked at Birmingham-Southern College, Centre College, Hendrix College, and Millsaps College.

8. Sewanee--The University of the South (Sewanee, Tennessee)
Sewanee's isolation has a definite upside: When students aren't partying, they enjoy the great outdoors, with nature "literally in your backyard." The 10,000-acre campus and surrounding area provides opportunities for kayaking, rock climbing, caving, hiking, and swimming. If you don't know where to start, the Sewanee Outing Program routinely organizes trips.

Students who considered Sewanee also looked at Clemson University, Tulane University, University of Richmond, and Wake Forest University.

9. Mount Holyoke College (South Hadley, Massachusetts)
The Mount Holyoke campus is quiet--not dead, mind you, just quiet--a situation most students appreciate. The campus may not always be bustling, but it is always beautiful. Students lovingly describe "greens surrounded only by classic brick buildings, covered in ivy." One rapturous undergraduate writes, "In the fall, the colors welcome students. In the winter, the skating rink is within walking distance of many sledding hills and cross-country skiing trails. In the spring, the lakes are home to baby geese and the campus is covered in flowers."

Students who considered Mount Holyoke also looked at Bard College, Barnard College, Connecticut College, and Smith College.

10. Swarthmore College (Swarthmore, Pennsylvania)
Swatties "love walking around the gorgeous campus and taking walks in the acres of the well-kept arboretum." When they get tired of that, they head to Philadelphia: There's a train stop "at the foot of campus" that runs kids straight downtown.

Students who considered Swarthmore also looked at Haverford College, Pomona College, Wesleyan University, and Williams College.
