May 19, 2006 (Press Release) --
Rank: 3
Previous Rank: 8
Base MSRP: $22,150
When ForbesAutos.com previously compiled new-car shopper rankings, the
Civic placed eighth. This time around, it’s the only vehicle from that
list to move up in the latest rankings.
The Civic is one of only two hybrids to crack the current Top 10, down
from twice that many on the preceding list. It's no great surprise to see
this longtime economy-car favorite appear on any and every vehicular list.
Nationwide, according to Automotive News data, the Civic is the fifth-
best-selling vehicle.
Non-hybrid Civics get in the low-30s mpg range; the hybrid is rated at 49
mpg city/51 mpg highway. And while auto awards have proliferated to such
an extent that it's hard to take them seriously, much less keep up with
them all, it does seems worthwhile to note that the Civic Hybrid was
recently named the 2006 World Green Car by a jury of 46 international
automotive journalists.
The Civic is another longtime economy-car favorite that was recently and
radically made over in style and specs into a much-heralded, sort of
Prius-looking space-age ride. Honda's aiming to further attract the tuner
car crowd. Approximately seven million Civics have been sold over the
years, and a let-up seems unlikely. Luxury-vehicle owners might be
considering buying one for their kids.
