May 19, 2006 (Press Release) --
Rank: 7
Previous Rank: 5
Base MSRP: $30,900
The BMW 325 offers plenty of status and technology for the price. The
latest generation of the starter model in the brand's best-selling 3
Series comes as a coupe, convertible, sedan or wagon. Somehow we doubt
ForbesAutos.com researchers are very interested in the latter, although
the wagon, like the sedan, offers newly redesigned, more aqueous, less
creased bodies, from the clever mind of BMW design chief Chris Bangle.
Following BMW nomenclature, the “25” in the 325’s name used to indicate
a 2.5-liter engine. No more. The 325 now shares the 3.0-liter six-cylinder
of the more expensive, higher-hp BMW 330.
The formerly fifth-ranked ride, from an automaker practically synonymous
with the word luxury, maintains a stronghold in the latest new-car shopper
list, downshifting to seventh place because of the introduction of two new
vehicles, the Sky and the FJ Cruiser.
The 3 Series, as previously reported, was pegged as 2005's second-best-
selling luxury car. No surprise it's the subject of sales-inquiry
requests. The BMW 330, by the way, nearly cracked the top 10 this time,
finishing 13th, with only four price-quote requests separating it from the
10th-ranked Honda Accord.
