May 20, 2006 (Press Release) --
Cadillac XLR-V
The two-seat XLR roadster is built on a Corvette platform, but that doesn't mean the higher-performance V version is a Caddy-badged Z06. Instead of a brute-force approach, the XLR-V uses a supercharged, 4.4-liter, four-valve, DOHC Northstar engine for smooth, quiet, refined performance. Its target is the also-supercharged Mercedes SL55 convertible, so expect a price just under $100,000. On sale December 2005.
Aston Martin V8 Vantage
Even at $120,000 (priced to compete with the Porsche 911 Turbo), the V8 Vantage will be Aston's first-ever "entry-level" model. Since the mid-1950s, the company has made nothing but super-expensive luxury coupes and convertibles. The V8 Vantage is hardly Everyman's Aston. But now that Ford owns this Brit boutique builder, it is anxious to see production levels climb from hundreds of units to many thousands. On sale early 2006.
Ferrari F430 Spider
The $180,000, 486-hp F430 coupe is Ferrari’s best-ever, all-around sports car, an F1-technology marvel. The company figured out a way to add an power operated top without even obscuring the glass-hooded engine and raised the price by $17,000. With a top speed of 193 mph, the Spider is the world’s second-fastest toupee-tester, trumped only by the 199-mph limited-production Ferrari Superamerica. On sale fall 2005.
