May 21, 2006 (Press Release) --
Announcing a huge booksale to benefit several area nonprofit groups. Over 45,000 books were donated from an area library, a church, two bookstores, corporate donations, and individual donations.
Approximately 5,000 music CDs will be available, starting at $1 - many are factory sealed. Books will be replenished throughout the sale. No one shops before Friday, not even volunteers. Up to 20% of our inventory is brand new. Roughly 15% are mass market paperbacks, roughly 5% are romance novels. The rest are hardcover, softcover, textbooks, vintage books, reference books, or trade paperbacks. 40-50% will be nonfiction titles. Credit cards accepted for purchases over $25.
* Dates: June 3-4
Special private opening on Friday June 2 (no charge to members; membership will be available at the door for $10)
* Hours: Friday 9-5; Saturday 9-5; Sunday Noon-4pm
* Location: Center for Spiritual Living, 39th & Roanoke (Northeast Corner), Kansas City MO. 4 blocks East of KU Med Center on 39th St.
* Prices range from $0.50 to $3.00 (nothing over $3.00). Sunday everything is half price, and a bag/box sale (bags start at $3.00).
Proceeds from the sale will be shared among four community programs, including a literacy program for Greater Kansas City grade school children, sponsored by the Quest Foundation.
The Quest Foundation is based in California, and started a Kansas City chapter 6 years ago. In 2000, it donated 75 internet-ready computers to Kansas City Kansas public schools and libraries. It has sponsored dozens of community projects, educational programs, and environmental causes. Last Fall, The Quest Foundation donated over 8,000 pounds of food to the America's Second Harvest center in Kansas City, which was distributed to Kansas City families in need, and also to Katrina survivors.
Other projects benefiting from this even will be Open Circle's spiritual education program; the Center for Spiritual Living building fund, and a mentor program by The Good Steward.
