May 27, 2006 (Press Release) --
For Immediate Release
Newhall, California, May 20, 2006 - “I’m in heaven!” declared one customer of the newly re-opened Cookbooks Plus. Her eyes slowly panned the store’s shelves overflowing with books and unique kitchen items, looking like a child on her first trip to a candy store. She immediately pulled out a cell phone to share her discovery with her sister in Denver.
With its main emphasis on cookbooks and kitchen tools, Cookbooks Plus also offers a wide variety of books on decorating, gardening, do-it-yourself home projects, woodworking, crafts, sewing, knitting, quilting, the arts, music, photography, and so much more.
“While some are new, most are what we like to call ‘gently used,’ ” says owner and long-time SCV resident, Mimi Hiller. “Our inventory includes rare and unusual volumes, some signed by their authors, along with historic and vintage titles. One gem was published in the late 1920’s, just as electric refrigerators were introduced to families, and, believe it or not, it contains the ‘original’ recipe for ice.”
“We also offer wonderful gift items for your favorite foodie,” she adds. “We carry a full line of Microplane graters and Silpat sheets, lauded by such cooking luminaries as Rachel Ray, Emeril Lagasse, Martha Stewart, and L.A.’s own Melinda Lee.
“If we don’t have the exact book or product in stock,” she continued, “we will do whatever it takes to find it for our customer.”
With more than a decade of experience, she is well-versed in navigating the Internet. She and husband JB also created Mimi’s Cyber Kitchen and Recipe Circus, two of the most popular cooking websites, attracting millions of visitors each year, making Mimi a true Internet celebrity.
“After two years in Canyon Country, we felt the need to move to a location more central to all residents of Santa Clarita. And when we heard about the planned revitalization of the downtown Newhall area, we focused our search there.
“Our new location at the corner of San Fernando Road & 8th Street is perfect for us,” she went on. “This property is significantly larger than our first store, so we have more room to offer a larger variety of books & other products. And best of all, we even have room for a kitchen, something our customers have begged for. We should be ready to announce a schedule of cooking events.”
“I love talking about cooking,” she continued, “and each new person who comes in brings a wealth of personal food experience. Many love to sit in our comfortable chairs and evaluate potential purchases. Others like to chat about what they’re doing in their own lives, or we simply discuss the particulars of what they are seeking. And we cater (no pun intended) to students attending culinary schools.”
Along with a host of cooking events, Cookbooks Plus also plans to host book signings. Check the store’s calendar for dates.
Cookbooks Plus is conveniently located at the corner of San Fernando Road & 8th Street, with plenty of free parking behind the store. It is open 10:00-6:00 Monday through Saturday.
