The market has been steadily growing in the past few years and is expected to continue to do so. There is an increasing demand for foreign models, which is mainly responsible for this growth.
Although Russian automotive industry stand to no comparison with the carmakers of US, Western Europe and Japan in terms of productivity, quality and customer service yet it has grown at an annual rate of 5-7% in the past few years.
Another point to note is that car ownership in Russia over the last decade increased 3.6 times to the present figure of 178 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants. It is further expected that annual car sales will increase more than 2.33 million by 2014 jumping by almost 1.5 fold times from its position in 2004.
