May 30, 2006 (Press Release) --
Compared with Tropical Caribbean Inslands or Oceanic Travel Spots, China is not visited with the aim of relaxation or taking a casual break from the 9 to 5 work days. Many visit China because of the surging economy and the 1.3 billion population.
The social choas are still visible from many aspects:
People still spit on the street. This is something Americans or foreign visitors to China could not comprehend as spitting is seen as something impolite and inconsiderate in the westren society. When one walks down a street, look out for the spitters or they might get it on your face.
Pedestrian Crossings are Killing Traps. Drivers do not stop for street pedestrians but honk at walkers if you do not stop for them to bulldoze by. It is easy for cars to run over you if you walk the way you do in downtown LA or London.
Squatting Toilets without Doors. Some tourist destinations still have restrooms without doors. Something that aligns with "stone age" and "native tribes". Locals seem be very used to this. A joke says : Bring something to cover your face when you use one these toilets.
As for me, I would walk with full alert on Chinese streets. If I do choose China for holidays, I would get a guide's help to avoid 'traps' and unpleasant times.
As for top holiday breaks, the Tropical Caribbean or Greek Inslands would certainly be my top recommendations.
