May 30, 2006 (Press Release) --
For_Immediate_Release:
A website has been launched by graduates of St.Andrews and Strathclyde Universities that aims to establish an online consumer network across the UK. www.getclued.com was set-up by brothers Ross and Kevin Anderson after they were frustrated with not being able to find good, reliable tradespeople in their area of Glasgow. They decided that the best way of finding the right tradesmen would be to find out the opinions of past customers. It would be similar to getting a recommendation from a friend but on a much larger scale.
The site is free-to-use and allows people to access customer reviews of tradesmen as well as other types of services such as IT support and childcare (it covers over 150 service categories). By reading the reviews, people can find out from local customers which businesses provide a good level of service and which ones do not. You can also find out the prices charged by businesses, learn how easy they are to get in contact with and discover how punctual and polite they are with customers!
Other features of the website include; allowing customers to add photographs of work they have had carried-out; enabling people to contact (by e-mail) other customers in their area so that they can arrange to visit and view work that a tradesman has recently carried-out (such as a new driveway or roof).
The overall aim of the site is to make people as informed as possible about the standards of different tradespeople so that they can avoid rogue tradesmen and choose the best firms to hire. There is therefore also additional tips and advice provided on the site, such as direct links to trade association websites so that people can quickly check, for example, if a plumber is Corgi registered.
“It is far more helpful than the yellow pages”, says GetClued.com’s co-founder Ross Anderson. “All you get from a directory is an address and a phone number, whereas, with this site you can find out how a business has performed in recent weeks, what sort of the jobs they have done, how well they did them and how much they charged for them. For good firms it is good news as their good reputation is spread through word of mouth between customers, but for poor-performing businesses it is not so good news.”
For the customer themselves, being part of such a network should provide good protection against being ripped-off. When they call a tradesmen via the site and inform them that they are a member of the site and that their review of them will be seen by hundreds of potential future customers (fellow members of the site) it is a good way of ensuring that you get a good level of service.
Already, the site is being recommended by several local and community councils across the country, who are advising their residents via their websites to use getclued.com to find good tradespeople.
