Brandon Routh Tries to Fill Some Very Big Shoes in Superman Returns
After an absence of almost 20 years, the Man of Steel returns to the big screen with Superman Returns directed by X-Men and X2 director Bryan Singer. Much of the success of this new Superman will depend on how well ex-daytime soap actor Brandon Routh does taking over the role Christopher Reeve brought to life in four Superman films. Sure, he looks like he could be Reeve's younger brother but can he act? The trailers have, for the most part, focused on the standard Superman thrills including flying and heavy lifting, with Routh looking great in the costume but not saying much. Warner Bros really needs Routh, Singer and Superman Returns to click with audiences as the film's budget is at least $225 million and is rumored to actually be closer to $300 million. $300 million...that's just incredible.
The Premise: This latest Superman film takes place after Superman has been missing for several years. The Man of Steel returns to Earth only to find his lady love, Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) has moved on with her life. Now the famous superhero must try and reconnect with the love of his life and also try and find a place for himself in a world that's managed to get along fine without him.
Superman Returns flies into theaters on June 30, 2006.
