June 1, 2006 (Press Release) --
Over 50% of Latin Americans will own a mobile phone by 2007. Strong economic growth in the region (Latin America grew 5.8% in 2005 - the highest rate since 1990) and falling ARPU (set to drop 10% by 2007) are behind rising ownership levels.
The trend towards cheaper calls is fuelling the $32 billion market mobile market in Latin America - a market expected to grow to $38 billion by 2007. The majority (59%) of revenue growth will come from Latin America’s two largest markets Brazil and Mexico (representing 31 million of the region's 49 million new subscribers by 2007).
